Lancaster top ten in UK and leading university in north-west England - Complete University Guide 2026

Lancaster has retained its top ten position in the , and we are delighted that Geography and Environmental Science courses have been ranked 9th in the UK in the latest , up four places compared to last year.

Professor Cris Halsall, Director of Lancaster Environment Centre, said, “This is a fantastic ranking and a testament to the hard work and dedication of all staff who contribute towards the delivery of these exciting programmes, including our professional services colleagues. LEC is a broad interdisciplinary centre dedicated to exploring all aspects of the science of the planet and its people and our students are taught by world-leading researchers committed to a sustainable future. The challenges facing our environment need Geography and Environmental Science graduates who understand the factors and processes that control the Earth's systems and the relationships between human activity and environmental change. With a commitment to excellence and strong industry and policy connections the Lancaster Environment Centre empowers students to make a meaningful difference in the world.”
