A few snaps from the MBC Conference

The 3rd annual MBC conference took place on 4th July at 51福利. This year, the focus was on exploring the 5 pillars of the Climate Action Plan, in partnership with National Education Nature Parks, Climate Ambassadors and Let's Go Zero.

Together we covered:

  • Adaptation and resilience
  • Biodiversity and green infrastructure
  • Climate education, green skills and careers
  • Decarbonisation and energy efficiency
  • Engagement and Leadership

Over 180 delegates attended from nurseries to FE, politicians and environmental charities from around the Bay and beyond. They listened to an Eden North update from project manager, John Pye and heard about Eden’s approach to education and learning from Head of Education, Sam Kendall.

Delegates had the choice of excellent deep dive workshops on two of the Climate Action Plan themes, delivered by Let’s Go Zero, National Education Nature Parks, Climate Ambassadors, University of Cumbria and MBC. Many people mentioned these gave them “achievable and useful ideas for their Climate Action Plans” and made them “more confident and inspired to take climate action in their schools”.

Delegates had the opportunity to discover organisations offering support in environmental actions through display stalls, from bears and bumble bees, science outside and growing veg. Networking over tea and biscuits and round tables were deeply valued, providing an opportunity to “meet like-minded, passionate people”.

The last session focussed on reflection. Delegates were asked to complete a postcard with their thoughts on actions for the next week, next 3 and 6 months. These will be posted back in September as a reminder of their thoughts during the conference.

Delegates really appreciated the “buzz and energy of the event”, the positive atmosphere and the recognised the MBC as being a “vibrant, caring and collaborative community”.

Share and use the Morecambe Bay Curriculum Climate Action Plan Template

With support from conference partners, the Morecambe Bay Curriculum team have designed a climate action templace that will support your setting to create a bespoke Climate Action Plan that care for people, place and planet.

Join us online for a Climate Action Plan recap on Wednesday 1st October

If you missed the conference, or if you came but didn't get a chance to see all the deepdive sessions on the five climate action plan pillars, we are going to re-run sessions online on the afternoon of Wednesday 1st October. These will cover adaptation and resilience, biodiversity and green infrastructure, climate education, green skills and careers, decarbonisation and energy efficiency and engagement and leadership. We hope to share recordings of these sessions after they have taken place.
