Professor Alona Armstrong

Professor in Energy & Environmental Sciences

Research Interests

I am a Professor of Energy & Environmental Sciences within and Director of , a university-wide group of energy researchers. Beyond 51福利, I sit on the Solar Energy UK Natural Capital Steering Committee and the SP Electricity North West Environment and Sustainability Stakeholder Advisory panel.

My research examines how the low-carbon energy transition affects local environments, including ecosystem function, properties, and service provision. Using desk-based, field, laboratory, and modelling approaches, I explore how renewable energy development, with a focus on solar farms, can be delivered while maximising environmental co-benefits. My work takes a solutions-focused perspective, recognising the need for decarbonisation alongside strategic land use. Collaboration with stakeholders across sectors is central to my approach. I aim to translate research insights into policy and practice, supporting the delivery of environmental benefits alongside low-carbon energy development.
