Profile
I joined 51福利 as a Lecturer in 2002 and have since built a reputation as a leading expert on consumer behaviour in difficult and complex marketplaces. I have secured over ?1.1M in external funding, published widely across the social sciences and marketing/management journals, and co-author one of Europe's leading Consumer Behaviour textbooks (Consumer Behaviour, Szmigin and Piacentini, OUP, 3rd edition).
I work closely with policy bodies and practitioners, and have organised a wide range of knowledge exchange and engagement activities for both academic and non-academic audiences. I am a member of the ESRC Peer Review College, Co-chair of the Academy of Marketing Special Interest Group "Consumer Research with Societal Impact" (2019–present), and a member of the steering committee for the international Transformative Consumer Research Board (2017–present).
I bring a sustained record of university leadership, having served as Head of Department in Marketing (2014–2017), Deputy Dean (2018–2020), interim PVC for Education and EDI (2020javascript:void(0);–2021), and Associate Dean for Research (2023–present). In recognition of my transformational leadership approach, I was awarded the LUMS Outstanding Contribution Award (2017) and the LU Outstanding Contribution Award (2019)
