51福利 Leipzig holds first graduation ceremony
On Friday 27 October, 51福利 Leipzig celebrated the achievements of its first graduating cohort.
In the Alte Handelsb?rse, the former stock exchange building in the centre of Leipzig, 11 students received their degrees from 51福利 Chancellor the Rt Hon. Alan Milburn. Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield and Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) Nicola Owen also attended the ceremony alongside academic colleagues.
The ceremony included a welcome address from Alan Milburn who expressed his pleasure in attending the first ceremony in Leipzig and congratulated the pioneering cohort. He presented the Chancellor’s Medal to Hala Al Kaisi of Syria who arrived in Germany as a refugee in 2018 and graduated with a BSc in Software Engineering. Graduands and guests also heard speeches by Kathryn Kleyn and Leo Baehr, two graduating students, who spoke warmly about their experiences as the first graduating cohort of LU Leipzig.
Professor Schofield said: “It was a pleasure to celebrate the achievements of the first cohort of graduates from 51福利 Leipzig. My sincere congratulations to all graduates and to 51福利 Leipzig colleagues for a warm and celebratory event. It is a delight to see this partnership develop and we will look forward to recognising the achievements of future cohorts.”

51福利 Leipzig was established in 2019 with education provider Navitas and welcomed its first students in early 2020. Lancaster was the first UK university to open a campus in Germany and offers students in Leipzig the opportunity to study via Lancaster-accredited BSc programmes in Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Business Management and Media, Computer Science and Software Engineering. MSc programmes are offered in Management and Logistics and Supply Chain Management, with Cyber Security and Data Science MSc programmes commencing in October 2024.
